Where Our Data Comes From

The live weather conditions and forecasts across VWeatherStation are drawn from established meteorological data providers, including open meteorological model data that aggregates readings from national weather services, surface stations, satellites and other observing systems worldwide. Our severe-weather pages draw on authoritative official sources: earthquake information comes from the United States Geological Survey, our hurricane and tropical-cyclone tracking uses data from the National Hurricane Center, and our volcanic activity reporting comes from the Smithsonian Institution and USGS Global Volcanism Program. Where we present data from these sources, we aim to credit them clearly and to link back to the original where appropriate. We are an independent platform and are not affiliated with any government agency or official forecasting body.

Our Editorial Approach

Beyond live data, VWeatherStation publishes original written guides and explanatory articles on how weather works and how to use it, from reading a forecast and calibrating home instruments to understanding the weather that matters for farming, boating, cycling and other activities. This written content is created in-house with the aim of being genuinely useful and accurate, explaining the science in plain language rather than simply repeating what can be found elsewhere. Our goal is for each article to teach something worth knowing. Weather science is a large and evolving field, and while we work to be accurate, our explanatory content is intended for general education and everyday decision-making, not as a substitute for official warnings or professional advice. No weather platform is perfect, and forecasts in particular carry inherent uncertainty because the atmosphere is a chaotic system that cannot be predicted with complete precision, especially several days ahead.
